1. Who we are
Tradie is run by [to be added before launch], [to be added before launch] ("Tradie", "we", "us"). We decide how and why your personal data is used, so we are the Data Fiduciary for it under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (the "DPDP Act").
This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the rights you have. We ask for your consent when you register, and you can withdraw it at any time (see section 7).
2. What we collect
- Account: your mobile number, name, the languages you choose, and whether you use Tradie as a worker, business or customer.
- Work profile (workers): skills, experience, work area, free hours, certificates, work history and ratings.
- Business details (businesses): business name, address and verification documents.
- Identity verification: where ID is needed (for example for work inside homes), a verification provider checks your ID. We keep the result and the last few digits only; we never store the full ID number.
- Bookings: jobs offered, accepted and completed, check-in and check-out times, photos and messages about the job, ratings, and complaints and how they were resolved.
- Location: your approximate area for matching. Your exact location is collected only during an active booking, to show arrival and to record check-in and check-out.
- Payments: amounts paid, held, released and refunded, and the bank account or UPI ID used for payouts. Card details, UPI PINs and net-banking passwords are handled by PayU and are never seen or stored by Tradie.
- Voice: if you use voice, your recording is turned into text by a speech service. The recording is kept only as long as needed to do that, unless you agree to keep it.
- Device and usage: device type, app version, IP address, pages used and error logs, to keep Tradie working and secure.
- Messages to us: what you send through the Contact page or support.
3. Why we use it
- To create and secure your account, and to log you in with one-time codes.
- To match workers with jobs, show offers and take-home amounts, and run bookings, attendance and payments.
- To hold and release payments, give refunds, and review complaints using the job record.
- To keep people safe: identity verification, preventing fraud and misuse, and acting on safety reports.
- To show Tradie in your language and improve how it works.
- To meet legal duties, such as tax, accounting and lawful requests from authorities.
We use your data on the basis of your consent, or for the legitimate uses the DPDP Act allows, such as doing what you asked us to do and meeting legal duties. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising by others.
4. Who we share it with
- The other side of a booking: your name, photo if you add one, rating and approximate area. Exact location is shared only during an active booking, with the one customer or business on that booking.
- Service providers that work for us: Amazon Web Services (hosting and SMS), PayU (payments), our identity-verification provider, speech and translation services, and, only if you accept analytics cookies, Google for site analytics. They may use your data only to provide their service to us.
- Authorities: when the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.
- A new owner: if Tradie is merged or sold, under this same policy.
5. Where it is stored
Tradie's servers, database and files are in India, in the Amazon Web Services Mumbai region. Some service providers may process data outside India where the law allows it.
6. How long we keep it
- Your account and profile are kept while your account is open.
- When you close your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data, except what we must keep by law. Payment and tax records are kept for as long as tax and accounting laws require, and booking and complaint records are kept as long as needed to settle any open dispute.
- Exact location from a booking is kept only as part of that booking's record.
7. Your rights
Under the DPDP Act you can:
- ask for a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how we use it;
- correct, complete or update it (much of it you can change yourself in your account);
- ask us to erase it, unless we must keep it by law;
- withdraw your consent at any time. This stops future use; it does not undo what was done before, and some features may stop working;
- nominate another person to use these rights for you if you die or cannot act;
- complain to us, and if you are not satisfied with our answer, to the Data Protection Board of India.
To use these rights, write to [to be added before launch] from the mobile number or email on your account, or use the Contact page. We may ask you to confirm it is you before we act.
8. Children
Tradie is only for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you think a child has an account, tell us and we will close it.
9. Security
We use encrypted connections, one-time-code login, access limited to staff who need it, and records of who accessed what. If a breach affects your personal data, we will tell you and the Data Protection Board as the law requires.
10. Cookies
We use a few cookies that the site needs to work: to keep you logged in, to remember your language, and to protect forms. These are always on.
If you tap Accept on the cookie notice, we also use analytics (Google Analytics) to see which pages are used and where people get stuck, so we can improve Tradie. Analytics is off until you agree, Google's advertising features are switched off, and we do not use advertising cookies. To change your choice, clear this site's data in your browser and choose again.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. If a change affects how we use your data, we tell you in the app first. The date at the top shows the latest version.
12. Contact and complaints
For privacy questions, write to [to be added before launch]. For complaints, you can also contact our Grievance Officer, [to be added before launch], at [to be added before launch]. Details are in the Terms.
